I am a postdoctoral researcher in the area of sentiment anlaysis, working as part of an Enterprise Ireland project in DCU. The project is investigating the polarity of social media for use in the financial domain.
My research interests include:
- Machine Learning in particular its application to real world challenges
- Active Learning which was the topic of my Ph.D. thesis and deals with the specific problem of applying supervised learning algorithms in domains where labelled data is scarce.
- Sentiment Analysis which examines the opinion held in natural language text.
- Dimensionality Reduction whereby high-dimensional data is represented by a much smaller set of features while still retaining the salient information.
Short Biography:
I obtained my Ph.D. in computer science from Trinity College Dublin in 2008. In 2004 I completed a M.Sc. in Computer Science (Networks and Distributed Systems) also at Trinity College Dublin. My undergraduate studies were done at Dublin City University, where I was awarded a B.Sc. (Hons) in Computer Applications (Software Engineering) in 2003.
